By 1893, it was in the hands of John Delahunty, a political figure who famously rode out the 1916 Easter Rising inside the Irish pub, as fighting raged outside near St. Stephen’s Green and Mount Street Bridge.

In the 1960s, the pub entered a new chapter when Ned Doheny and Tom Nesbitt, two proud Tipperary publicans, gave the Irish pub the name it still carries today. But it was in 1989 that a significant transformation began, led by brothers Tom and Paul Mangan, who brought their deep roots in Irish hospitality to Doheny & Nesbitt, helping elevate it into one of Dublin’s most respected and recognisable pubs.

Today, the legacy continues with Eoghan and Paul Mangan, the second generation of the Mangan family, who now lead the business with a blend of tradition and modern vision. Before taking the reins, Eoghan and Paul built their expertise in some of Ireland’s leading hospitality venues, bringing fresh ideas and high standards to everything from customer experience to interior design.

Since taking over, they have completed a thoughtful remodelling of the Victorian pub, preserving its historic character while enhancing its comfort, food offerings, live music schedule, and event capabilities. Their commitment has kept Doheny & Nesbitt not just relevant but thriving as a landmark of Irish culture, conversation, and hospitality — and a celebrated home of traditional Irish music.
